Game Plan for Super Bowl Sunday

Millions of fans gather around their TVs each year to determine who will be the championship team of the NFL. It may not be a national holiday, but we sure treat it like one. The Super Bowl is not only one of the most-watched sporting events in the world for its over-the-top halftime shows and entertaining commercials, but it’s almost become a symbol of our all-American culture.

As you gather friends and family in your home to watch the big game, be on the defense and remember these three tips to avoid any upsets.

  1. Create a Playbook for Serving Alcohol

Most Super Bowl parties involve serving libations. If guests are partaking of alcohol, make sure there is plenty of food to absorb the impact of booze on partygoers and cut off the drinks in the third quarter. Brad Parker says, “When the game is over and the party is breaking up, encourage (insist) that anyone who has been drinking take an Uber and have the number of a cab handy. You may even need to be prepared to let your guests spend the night.” Super Bowl Sunday is among the most hazardous driving days of the year, especially when impaired motorists drive home after the parties. “Remember to keep an eye on any guests under the age of 21. Party hosts could be held liable if a minor who has been drinking in their home is involved in an accident following their party,” Brad says.

  1. Prevent Drops and Fumbles

Don’t forget that people visiting your home aren’t familiar with possible hazards that could potentially cause slips, trips and falls. Make sure there is nothing around the house that guests could trip over, such as lamp cords, unmarked steps or bunched-up rugs. It’s also a good idea to stash away any valuable or sentimental items as they could accidently get damaged.

  1. Make the Right Call

Extra humans in your home could put stress on your dog. Moments of fear could lead to aggressive behavior from your four-legged friend even if they have never shown signs of aggression in the past. Brad says, “Dogs can get scared or overreact when put in certain situations. Put your dog away, either in a back bedroom or crate. Otherwise you are putting yourself at serious liability, not to mention the horrific humiliation of a guest being attacked in your home.”
