On Friday, May 4, a wreck occurred mid-morning between an 18-wheeler and three cars in the 2900 block of East Loop 820, south of Meadowbrook Drive.
A vehicle carrying two adults and two children, ages 3 and 6, collided with the 18-wheeler causing the car to lose control and travel into the median. Both children were ejected from the vehicle. An emergency crew took them to Cook Children’s Medical Center, and one of the children was listed in critical condition.
Debris from the vehicle carrying the children was flung into oncoming traffic and hit a dump truck, which caused the vehicle behind the dump truck to rear-end it.
Seven individuals in total were involved in the wreck, all of which had to be hospitalized. In addition to the child in critical condition, two people were listed in serious condition, and four were said to have only minor injuries.
Details about what caused the initial accident are still under investigation by police. Unfortunately, trucking accidents like this are not uncommon. Countless semi-trucks and 18-wheelers pass through North Texas each day transporting goods throughout the state, and sometimes the actions of reckless drivers can lead to tragedy.
